You can't really blame people for asking this question all the time when it's so damn misleading. First, don't post about things that you know nothing about.Second, don't post suggestions actually mentioned in the first post of the thread. It appears to compare checksums of your local files with the cloud and will re-download any invalid files again.

steam validating tf2 files stuck at 100-49

Do not run this process for multiple games at the same time.

Posted on steampowered as well, but as I doubt I'll get any semblance of help there, posting here as well.

Thanks for pretending to help, but actually being very counter-productive.

Do not run the verification process while performing other system-intensive processes, such as defragmenting your hard drive or scanning for viruses.

If something goes whacky with your game, this sometimes fixes it.

Steam support suggested it once and it got me out of a problem I had, so I try it again on occasion.

I've tried restarting Steam, and I've tried defragmenting cache files (I saw the solution on another thread asking about this), but it still keeps doing this.

I'd like to avoid re-installing TF2 if I can, but if re-installing TF2 is the only solution, will I lose my records?

I don't know, it doesn't make much sense, since the download just happened and should not have been corrupt.

I recently restored my computer back to factory settings (clean os) after screwing it up, but I kept source 2007 shared materials.gcf, source 2007 shared models.gcf, source 2007 shared sounds.gcf, source materials.gcf, source models.gcf, source sounds.gcf, team fortress 2 client content.gfcf, team fortress 2 content.gcf, and team fortress 2 on a 16 gb flash drive, so I could just verify integrity of local cache and not have to redownload 13 gb of stuff.

Specs: AMD Athlon 62 x2 3800 Radeon X1950XT 256mb 1.5gig ram Windows XP SP2 Any solution ideas would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get on TF2 sometime!
